little angels

“As much as you want to plan your life, it has a way of surprising you with unexpected things that will make you happier than you originally planned. That’s what you call God’s will.” -unknown

Stress was taking over and the monster was screaming loud and proud. Reviewing her calendar was cause for a panic attack itself. Things were rapidly picking up and she just wanted a moment to sit and rest. Fighting to take life a moment at a time her monster had other ideas. The battle was difficult and she desperately wanted to throw in the towel. There was still a little spark left in her.

But there she sat. Bumper to bumper traffic fighting the urge to chew more gum hoping that would take away the anxiety. Creeping around the ridge cut she glanced towards the mountain. Her mind instantly exploded screaming, “the angels are out!!” All of the muscles in her body began to relax. She was taken back to her childhood. The sun rays radiating out of the clouds hovering over the mountains. It was the most picturesque scene. As a little girl her momma had always explained that those were the angels and only came out at certain times. There was a feeling in her heart that her Papa was always with her but when the angels were out it only confirmed to the young girl that she was seen and that she was not alone.

This was her moment to be still. Tears filled her eyes and tongue became speechless. In that moment it was all ok. The last minute change of plans no longer mattered. The untouched “to do” list became clear. Her monster was momentarily gone. And the traffic seemed to be pleasant. The world had stopped. It just her and the angels.

Exodus 23:20 – See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.

Reflection

“She stood in the storm and when the wind did not blow her away, she adjusted her sails” -unknown

{reflection:// the act of reflecting, as in casting back a light or heat, mirroring, or giving back or showing an image; the state of being reflected in this way}

There she sat at the exact same table surrounded by a very similar group of people. This time with a clashing feeling than last holiday. Before, she was numb and broken. Lifeless and frayed. Hopeless and decrepit. Now it was like the young girl had finally busted out of her ol’ cocoon. She was rejuvenated and full of joy. Overflowing with light and love. Her huge smile and quirkiness was back.

Soaking everything in as best as she could, the past year replayed in her mind. Deep roots settled into Atlanta opening up so many new doors. Connecting her with a much larger family spanning across the country. The self harm behaviors had come to an end and her monster’s voice was somewhat tamed. She had gained control back over her life. The young girl was tackling tasks that she never could’ve dreamed of. She was finally seeing who God truly created her to be.
