a guy that knows

“I am worthy of so much more than what I started to settle for” – unknown

{worth :// good or important enough to justify; usefulness or importance, as to the world, to a person, or for a purpose}

There was something in her soul and it needed to come out. She wasn’t sure where it was coming from or what exactly possessed her to feel this intensely about it. The young girl picked up her phone and began typing…

Let me just be real a second… all I want is a guy that knows…that I sing “forget you” at the top of my lungs to let anger out. That I listen to silent night when I’m distressed. That I can easily lose myself in a bookstore, especially in the children’s section. That the beach brings me back to myself. That I prefer sunsets over sunrises but think both are equally beautiful. That my sister is my ultimate best friend. That sometimes I just need a day out with my best friend, Al. That knows my past complete with every high and low but still takes me as I am and loves me anyway. That I am the most free when I’m driving in my car, singing at the top of my lungs with the windows down. That I have a heart made of gold but should be treated as a delicate flower. That I prefer to be behind a camera rather than in front. That sometimes I would much rather stay at home and watch movies than go out. That sometimes I don’t always know what is wrong and that I just need to cry. That I love to snuggle and it makes me feel safe. That the smallest things can make my day. That I don’t need to be spoiled in materialistic things. That I love surprises. That flowers always make me happy regardless of how I’m feeling at first. That I get my nails done not bc I’m a “basic girl” but because it’s a constant reminder of how far I’ve come and that I have the willpower to destroy a horrific habit. That sometimes writing is my own true escape. That sappy chick flicks get me in touch with my feels. That lavender oil helps me sleep at night. That hot tea warms my soul. That I love bath bombs. That each of my littles take up a large portion of my heart. That I believe there is a good in anyone. That I get slightly sad when I want Chickfila on Sundays. That sometimes a drink with Brittney is what I need. That I am very independent but will always want you too. That I aspire to be a world changer. That sunflowers make my face light up. That I think oreos and peanut butter are a wonderful combination. That Atlanta is also home. That I am always up for any and every adventure. That sometimes I snort when I laugh too hard. That I love little notes written on the bathroom mirror. That cleaning is a stress reliever for me. That I love watching football even though most of the time I’m not exactly sure what is going on. But most importantly I want him to know that I am me and I am not defined by anything.

After pressing send an instant wave of relief washed over her. It was kind of weird since she wasn’t really sure that the feeling had even been there. Then it made sense. She had found her worth. Through all of the chaos life had brought to her the past few weeks this was brewing inside of her. This was who she was. Just because others couldn’t see her for how great she was didn’t mean that she would start settling for anything less than she deserved. The young girl deserved her fairy tale. All of the hurt and pain from previous relationships would not take away the hope she had for future ones. Out there in the world was a guy who would know these things and then be able to create his own list one day. Her prince charming would come.

Psalm 139:13-14 For you created my inmost being;  you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;   your works are wonderful,  I know that full well

Café des fleurs

“Live on coffee and flowers. Try not to worry what the weather will be.” – Matt Berninger

{flower :// the part of a seed plant comprising the reproductive organs and their envelopes if any, especially when such envelopes are more or less conspicuous in form and color}

She envisioned the little store on the street corner in a swanky, chic town. Unsure of where that might be. The store is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Standing and admiring the curb appeal. Large windows allow for the delicate sunshine to sparkle through the crystal clear glass. The chalkboard easel nestles outside of the door. Some corny joke or inspirational quote is written in dainty lettering. An array of flowers overflow the rustic wooden wagon tempting pedestrians as they stroll by. Duplicate entryways. One for the cafe side and the other leading into the floral shop. Each door painted a bold color. A unified building but distinct separation between perennials and ground beans.

The young girl reaches for the bulky door and eases her way inside. Long, lightly colored farm tables line one wall. Petite flower arrangements rest comfortably on the tables bringing pure joy to customers. Her pictures of lavender fields, empowering quotes and decadent treats hung creatively on the wall. Moist banana bread and dainty tea cakes filled the glass case. Carefully handcrafted cupcakes and locally grown fruit filled bowls. Warm chocolate chip cookies rest on the dark colored counter. Elegantly designed menus and hand picked mugs made by a local potter. Soft music notes drift through the atmosphere bouncing off walls bringing a feeling of comfort. An aroma of vanilla blended with ground coffee beans fill the room. To one side a “mug wall” where regulars hang their favorite cup to use when they need comfort from a warm drink. Students nestle in corners studying away to better their futures. Childhood friends reunite for the first time in years catching up while enjoying their favorite warm beverage. Young teenagers gossiping over the latest drama. A dapper man and a graceful young lady out on their first date. A sweet tenderness fills the space.

White double doors open up to the outside world. The young girl pushes her way out getting lost in a picturesque scene. Vintage bulb lights strung across the patio creating a canopy of twinkling light. Oversized chairs and extended couches. A fire pit to huddle around on those grey, gloomy winter days. She imagines the sound of sparks crackling and the earthy smell of fresh cut wood drifting into the sky. Piles of lumber stacked against the old wooden fence. In the corner sits lavishing flower beds. Exploding blooms greet the gentle spring morning. The smell of rosemary is distinct and sweet. An array of vibrant colors mold the atmosphere around her. Clouds, squishy like marshmallows, whirl gently by. Butterflies flutter in circles hovering over their precious home. Birds chirping gaily and the young girl feels the crisp swooshing whirls of wind. A dog watering stationed nestled off on its own. Grapevines and wisteria twist and turn around the pergola. Elongated benches and hand crafted dining table sit under the flowy perennials. Opulent tea parties set up for bridal showers and family gatherings. The space felt comfortable.

Out back sat a rustic, long bed truck. Plenty of space for stocking up at local farmers markets on the weekends or making special delivery runs at any time. At the end of each week the crew surprises clients at mental health treatment centers and nursing homes with extra flowers. The tiny gesture lifts their spirits. Flower fairies sprinkled throughout the community. Traveling to fairs and festivals setting up the lovely display.

Her journey scavenging around wasn’t over. The next door was anxiously waiting for the young girl. Taking a deep breath she steps in.

The atmosphere was so light and airy it seemed kind of magical. Carefully chosen tile floors. Fractions of light breaking through the large windows. Cool colored walls keeping the shop simple and classy. French meets country. A large island with plenty of storage in the center perfect for arranging. A roll of walnut colored craft paper attached to the end. The farm style sink built in one side. Spools of twine and ribbon line the wall. Perfect for the finishing touch on any creation. Open shelving with various vases in all shapes and sizes. Cut cases filled with pulchritudinous arrangements. Similar to a coffee bar, a flower bar is setup on one side of the room. Perfect for daddys’ to fabricate a perennial project for his little girl. The “it” spot where men and women come to pick out pulchritudinous arrangements for their lover just because. Little princess birthday parties designing their own flower crowns. Workshops educating the public. The opportunities were endless.

Soaking it all in the young girl imagined of how the people would run this magical land.

The staff were more like family. Celebrating each little accomplishment together. Rich birthday cake and kaleidoscopic balloons for another year older. Holiday parties and random group lunch dates gathered around one big table. Bubbly attitudes with a splash of spunk and wittiness. A diverseness that made the place so unique. Each one created equally. Using each individual’s talents and gifts to build them as a whole. A circle of trust tightly bounded together. The mighty force of multiples rather than selfish work of an individual. All believing in their ability to change the world.

Inspired by an indescribable coffee shop in North Carolina. The walls of stigmas and stereotypes crumble to her feet. Overall a booming business that allows for the young girl to give back to her world and make that difference. She felt empowered and driven. The world was in the palm of her hands and the young girl was determined to use it to her advantage.
